How can I connect Chai with my utility?

Step 1: Entering your utility credentials into the Chai Energy app

  • Let’s open up the Chai Energy app on your device.
  • If you aren’t already logged in, let’s do so by tapping the ‘Login’ button on the bottom left of your screen.
  • At the ‘Login’ screen, enter your Chai Energy login credentials and click Login: (Remember, this is separate from your utility login credentials unless you chose to use the same for both.)
  • If you have successfully logged into the Chai Energy app, let’s move onto Step 2.
  • Can’t log into the Chai Energy app? Go ahead and tap the ‘Forgot Password?’ text above the ‘Login’ button to trigger our forgot password feature.
  • We will email you a link to our reset password page where you can reset your password.
  • Once you have your Chai Energy login credentials, let’s login and move onto Step 2

Step 2: Connecting your utility online account with Chai Energy

  • Once logged in, you will be presented with a card asking you to link your utility. Tap “Link Utility Account”
  • If you have your utility online login username and password, tap ‘Yes, I have my utility login and password’ button.
  • Enter your utility online credentials and click ‘Connect Utility Account’.
  • The Chai Energy app will then attempt to retrieve a list of homes associated with your utility account. Note: this can take some time. Maybe this is a good time for a coffee or tea break?
  • Did the Chai app present you get a list of homes? Let’s go to Step 3.
  • Did you get an error popup? Sorry to hear that. Please let us know about it. If you can, it would be great if you could let us know what the error says or send us a screenshot.

Step 3: Select a home

  • Go ahead and tap the home you would like to monitor.
  • Chai will begin to retrieve your home’s historical energy usage data and direct you to our fetching data screen. Once we have confirmed on our end that everything is working properly, you will receive a welcome email.
    • We appreciate your patience—this process can take up to 72 hours.
    • Note: Although we do have plans to support multiple homes, we have not yet implemented this feature into the Chai app. If you would like to monitor more than one house, you will have to create multiple Chai accounts.
